How to Hack CCTV Camera

There are many reasons why somebody might want to hack a CCTV camera. Maybe they want to keep an eye on their property and ensure that it is secure, or perhaps they think the camera is being used to spy on them, and they want to disable it.

In any case, hacking a CCTV camera is not as difficult as you might think, and let’s dig in and find out how to hack CCTV Camera?

Before we start, it’s important to note that hacking a CCTV camera can be risky. If you are caught doing it, you could face criminal charges.

So please only proceed if you are comfortable with taking this risk.

How To Hack CCTV Camera?

CCTV cameras are the best outdoor security camera system and a great way to keep an eye on your property, whether it’s at home or work.

However, like any other device on the network, they can be vulnerable to hacks. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the ways you can hack a CCTV camera and how to protect yourself from them.

One of the most common ways to hack a CCTV camera is by exploiting its firmware. Many CCTV cameras are based on embedded systems, prone to vulnerabilities.

Attackers can exploit these vulnerabilities to gain access to the camera’s operating system and take control of it.

They can then use it for malicious purposes, such as spying on the people around the camera or disrupting their activities.

Another way to hack a CCTV camera is by exploiting its networking configuration. Many CCTV cameras are connected to the network without proper security measures, making them vulnerable to attack.

Attackers can exploit these vulnerabilities to gain access to the camera’s operating system and take control of it.

They can then use it for malicious purposes, such as spying on the people around the camera or disrupting their activities.

Finally, attackers can also hack CCTV cameras by exploiting their physical security vulnerabilities.

Many CCTV cameras are not properly secured, making them vulnerable to physical attacks.

Attackers can exploit these vulnerabilities to gain access to the camera’s operating system and take control of it.

They can then use it for malicious purposes, such as spying on the people around the camera or disrupting their activities.

To protect yourself from the above exploits, you should always ensure your CCTV camera is up-to-date on patches and security fixes.

You should also implement proper network protection mechanisms around it to ensure that attackers cannot gain access to it from a remote location.

Also, make sure the camera is correctly secured against physical attacks.

Since many of these exploits can be detected remotely, monitoring your network for suspicious activity can also help you catch an attack before it does any damage.

An excellent way to do this is by setting up a powerful log management tool like Kibana or Elastic search, as they will allow you to monitor all traffic in real-time.

And see what’s going on inside your network, with minimal impact on bandwidth or storage.

Suppose someone has connected their mobile device to the internet to use a mobile data connection (2G/3G).

In that case, they can do that trick easily without any knowledge because it’s effortless and straightforward.

The main thing that a person needs is only their target IP address which they want to find out.

When we search for anything on Google, it shows us related websites with that particular keyword.

Similarly, when we search for an IP address on Google Maps, it shows us the location of that IP on the map.

So, if you want to hack any CCTV camera, you need its IP address.

There are many ways to find out the live feed of a CCTV camera, specifically third-party websites, etc. But in this tutorial, we will use the most accessible form of google maps.

First of all, open your Android device’s web browser and find nearby IP address, now go to the “Google Maps” website and type the IP address of the CCTV camera in the search bar as shown in the following screenshot:

After inserting the IP address in the search bar, press “Enter,” and it will show you the exact location of that CCTV camera on the map, as shown in the following screenshot:

Now, just zoom in on the map, and you can see the live feed of that CCTV camera. You can also take a screenshot of that live feed if you want.

  • Step 4: We have to create a new ssh key pair using the following command

ssh-keygen -t RSA

press enters two times when it asks for input, don’t put any password.

  • Step 5: Once the key is generated, we must copy it to our computer. We will use the android file transfer app, which comes pre-installed on most android phones. Open android file transfer and connect your phone with the computer. Then go to /sd card/ and find the .ssh folder; inside that, you will find the id_rsa.pub file (see image below).
  • Step 6: Now, open your computer and create a new file called authorized_keys inside the .ssh folder. Paste the content of the id_rsa.pub file into it and save the file.
  • Step 7: Now we are ready to connect to the CCTV camera using ssh. For this, we will need the IP address of the CCTV camera. You can get it from the admin panel of the camera or by using some online tools like My IP Location etc.
  • Step 8: Once you have the IP address of the camera, open the terminal or command prompt on your computer and type

ssh -i “path-to-key-file” [email protected]

Replace path-to-key-file with the path to your private key file and username with the admin username. And enter. Now you will be logged in without any password.

For windows users, it will look like this:

  • Step 9: You can now do anything on the camera using the termux app; many of the cameras have some sort of default username and PWD, which is often mentioned in their manual. And also, you can use a password list online to hack into CCTV cameras. In my next article, I am going to show you how you can add a new user or delete an existing one from the termux terminal. So stay tuned for that.
